| This is the Ladies' Apparel section of Madame Bertie's Bathing Beauties shop. Between strips of polished wood moulding runs cream wallpaper sprigged with little violets. An oval mirror mounted on a shining mahogany stand tilts to offer patrons of all heights a good view. A mahogany bench with upholstery of faded purple velvet invites shoppers to sit while they browse the fashions for sale. The tall windows are hung with well-lined ecru curtains. The only drawback is the harsh, unflattering overhead lighting that is standard issue in all bathing suit shops across the multiverse. |  |
