A funeral parlour on Lachaise Road

| The smell of burnt incense lingers on the air in this shadowed funeral parlour, dark velvet drapes hanging from each wall, and the prickling gaze of Genuan deities from statues at each corner of the room. Reflecting perhaps the many beliefs that Genuans carry of that last boat ride down the river Vieux, altars at their feet hold offerings of sorts made by the families of the recently deceased. In the centre of the room, a stone tomb fashioned of finest black granite is decorated with all manner of fine engravings. Flickering candles burn dimly in sconces, a shimmering half-light that casts great shadows of each statue across the floor of the room. |  |
