| A low stool stands alone in the middle of the room, flanked on the north and south wall by a table and a couch. A full length mirror hangs on the wall beside the door, so that customers may better admire their new purchases. Lanterns dangle from the wall at brief intervals, all of them lit to cast as much light into the room as possible short of blinding anyone. Racks of cloth lean against the east wall, the more delicate fabrics draped gently upon them. Quietly sophisticated shelves stand in the corners, holding a simple wooden clock and folded materials that can handle the rougher treatment. Four mannequins pose near the north wall, each displaying a clothing ensemble. |  |
